Moving totes that talk.
Every ROC Tote & Go tote has a small tag on its side. Tap it with your phone and it tells you the tote number, the room it belongs to, and what's inside. No app. Works with VoiceOver on iPhone and TalkBack on Android. Works when the totes are stacked.
How it works
- We deliver your totes to the spot you choose. Each tote has a paper label and a tag on the same side, at the same height, so you always know where to reach.
- As you pack, tap the tag with your phone. Your phone opens a page that reads the tote number and lets you choose the room and type or dictate what you packed.
- At the new place, tap any tote to hear what's in it. Or open your packing list, grouped by room, and search for what you need.
- When we pick up, your list stays in your account and is removed from the totes. The next customer starts blank.
The first time you tap a tote on a new phone, it asks for your booking email and sends you a sign-in link. After that, your phone stays signed in for your whole rental plus a week.
Built for screen readers
The tote page was written for a screen reader first and a screen second. This is what it does, and each line is true of the live page.
- The tote page announces the tote number and room first, then whether it's marked fragile or unpack first, then the contents.
- Every button and field has a spoken label. Room choices are real buttons that announce whether they're selected.
- Nothing times out. Your notes save as you type.
- Large-print mode is one tap away and stays on for your whole rental.
- The packing list can be read in order, searched, printed, or shared with a helper as a read-only link.
What else we do differently
- Large-print room labels, free.
- Ask at booking. We print big black-on-white room labels and bring them with your totes.
- Same spot on every tote.
- Tag on the side, label on the side, same height, every tote. Learn one, know them all.
- Delivery where you say.
- Inside the door, at the bottom of the stairs, in a specific room. Tell us in your booking and we'll put them there.
- A person who answers.
- Text or call (585) 204-2749. If a form isn't your first choice, we'll book it for you over the phone.
- Predictable packages.
- Every package is a fixed tote count and two weeks. No surprises at the door.
- Attached lids and a dolly.
- Lids stay on the totes, so nothing gets lost. A dolly comes with every package, so you roll instead of carry.
What it doesn't do
We rent the totes and bring them to you. We don't pack or carry your belongings. The tag feature needs a smartphone that can read NFC, which is most phones made in the last several years. If you're not sure yours can, text us the model and we'll tell you.
For organizations that serve blind and low-vision Rochester
We're a small, local, veteran-owned business and this feature is new. We'd rather get it right with your help than guess. We'll bring totes to your location for a hands-on session, take feedback seriously, and change things quickly. If your members would find it useful, we can set up a group code.

Questions
Do I need an app?
No. Tapping the tag opens a web page in your phone's browser.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, with VoiceOver. iPhone XS, XR and newer read the tag automatically; hold the top edge of the phone near the tag. iPhone 7, 8 and X need a free NFC reader app open first, or use the QR code on the label instead.
Does it work on Android?
Yes, with TalkBack, on any phone with NFC. Hold the back of the phone near the tag. NFC must be on in Settings, and the screen unlocked.
What if the tag doesn't read?
Each label also has a QR code that opens the same page, and you can open your packing list from your account and pick the tote by number.
Can someone else see my list?
Only you, unless you create a share link. Staff can see your room list to help at delivery but never your photos.
Is there a cost for any of this?
No. Tags, large-print labels, and the packing list are included in every package.
