Rush is a rural town at the southern edge of Monroe County, counted as a suburb of Rochester. The 2020 census recorded 3,490 residents. It borders Henrietta to the north, Mendon to the east, Wheatland and Caledonia to the west and Avon to the south. The Genesee River forms the western town line, and Honeoye Creek crosses the middle of town from east to west before it joins the river at West Rush. Rush was formed from the town of Avon in 1818 and covers just under 31 square miles, almost all of it land. The name is credited either to the rushes growing along the creek or to Dr. Benjamin Rush, one of the founding fathers.
Interstate 390 runs through the town, with Exit 11 serving State Routes 15 and 251. The hamlet of Rush sits in the northeast part of town, and the other named hamlets are Five Points, Golah, Industry, Manns Corner, Meadow Wood, North Rush and West Rush. Industry is home to the Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. The Lehigh Valley Trail follows Honeoye Creek in the bed of the former Lehigh Valley Railroad and is a popular walking route. Veterans Memorial Park offers fishing, and the Rush Public Library has been open since 1914. Public schools are part of the Rush-Henrietta Central School District.
Housing in Rush is spread thin. The 2000 census counted 1,300 housing units across the town, an average of about 43 per square mile, so most moves here involve a detached house on its own lot rather than an apartment. Many homes sit on rural roads between the hamlets, with the creek and river valley shaping where houses were built. A move into Rush usually means loading a car or truck in one driveway and unloading in another, with a stretch of I-390 or Route 15 in between. The Lehigh Valley Trail and Veterans Memorial Park tend to be the first places new residents explore once the boxes are unpacked. Stackable totes with lids sit neatly in a vehicle for that kind of trip and stay dry if the weather turns.
All of it, including Rush hamlet, West Rush, Industry, Rush Henrietta Town Line Road and East Henrietta Road. Zip code 14543.

Rural homes on acreage. Outbuildings, workshops and big basements are common, so talk to us about adding totes. More than you think. A 900 sq ft one-bedroom usually takes 40 to 50 totes once the kitchen and closets are counted. Plan on 12 to 15 for a kitchen, 8 to 10 per bedroom, 6 to 8 for a living room, 4 to 6 for closets and linens, and 12+ for a garage or basement. Our home packages run from 15 to 100 totes. When in doubt, size up: unopened totes come back with us at no charge.
Yes. People search for plastic moving boxes, moving bins, moving crates and reusable moving boxes, and they all mean the same thing: a sturdy 27 x 17 x 12 inch container with an attached lid that stacks and rolls. We call them totes.
