Village homes and farm country. Older houses often mean steep stairs: a tote with handles is easier on them than a box.
Scottsville is a village in the town of Wheatland, in southwest Monroe County, about 12 miles from the center of Rochester. The 2020 census counted 2,009 people in the village and 4,897 in the town as a whole. Settlement began around 1790, and the village takes its name from Isaac Scott, who bought about 150 acres that year. Oatka Creek runs along the southern edge of the village on its way east to the Genesee River, which forms Wheatland's eastern boundary. Canal connections in the 1830s made Scottsville a shipping point for farm goods, and the Scottsville and Le Roy Railroad was chartered in 1836. Wheatland's name reflects the wheat and flour trade that once led the nation. The village was incorporated in 1914.
Route 383 passes through the village as Main Street and Rochester Street, heading northeast toward Rochester and west toward Mumford. The Rochester Street Historic District, listed in 1973, covers 20 acres on both sides of Rochester Street with 41 houses, more than half of them built between the 1830s and 1850s in the Greek Revival style. Eight properties in the village are on the National Register, including Grace Church and the Isaac Cox Cobblestone Farmstead. Village offices are at 22 Main Street, and the Scottsville Free Library is at 28 Main Street. Elsewhere in Wheatland are the hamlets of Mumford, Garbutt, Wheatland Center, Belcoda and Beulah, plus Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, with 68 restored buildings on more than 600 acres, and Oatka Creek Park near Garbutt. Schools are in the Wheatland-Chili Central School District.
A Scottsville move often starts or ends in a house that is well over a century old. Greek Revival homes on Rochester Street and the nearby village blocks have steep stairs, small closets and limited driveway space, while homes out toward Mumford and Garbutt sit on larger rural parcels. The creek and river valley keep the village compact and walkable, which also means short carries from the curb. Uniform totes stack in the hallway of an old house without toppling, then load into a car in a few trips.
All of it, including Scottsville Village, Wheatland, Mumford, Oatka Creek and Scottsville Road. Zip codes 14546, 14511.

Village homes and farm country. Older houses often mean steep stairs: a tote with handles is easier on them than a box. More than you think. A 900 sq ft one-bedroom usually takes 40 to 50 totes once the kitchen and closets are counted. Plan on 12 to 15 for a kitchen, 8 to 10 per bedroom, 6 to 8 for a living room, 4 to 6 for closets and linens, and 12+ for a garage or basement. Our home packages run from 15 to 100 totes. When in doubt, size up: unopened totes come back with us at no charge.
Yes. People search for plastic moving boxes, moving bins, moving crates and reusable moving boxes, and they all mean the same thing: a sturdy 27 x 17 x 12 inch container with an attached lid that stacks and rolls. We call them totes.
