Spencerport is a canal village about ten minutes west of us, which makes it one of our easiest runs. Village streets off Union Street or a newer build out toward Ogden, the price is the same and delivery is free.
Older village homes with porches (perfect for a drop-off spot) and family subdivisions in the surrounding town of Ogden.
Spencerport is a village on the Erie Canal in the northern part of the town of Ogden, in western Monroe County. It is a suburb of Rochester, and the 2020 census counted 3,685 residents in about 1.4 square miles. The village began when Daniel Spencer bought a farm here in 1804. When the canal was cut through that farm at Canawaugus Road, the land was sold off as the first village lots, and the settlement grew as a canal port. The state legislature incorporated Spencerport as a village on April 22, 1867.
Union Street carries Route 259 through the village center and continues north to Hilton and south to North Chili. Route 31 runs along the south side as Nichols Street, heading east toward Rochester and west toward Brockport. Just south of the village, the Route 531 expressway connects Route 31 with Interstate 490 near Gates. The canal is the landmark everyone knows. The Heritage Trail follows it beside the central business district, with shops, restaurants and a gazebo on the water. The Spencerport Depot and Canal Museum sits in a restored trolley station from the old Rochester, Lockport and Buffalo line. Pineway Ponds Park and Springdale Farm, an agricultural education site, are the other names residents recognize. The village runs its own electric department and was named the first Clean Energy Community in the Finger Lakes region by NYSERDA.
The 2020 census listed 1,621 housing units in the village with a vacancy rate of just 2.4 percent, so homes here rarely sit empty. The census also classes the village as 99.6 percent urban, which fits a compact grid of streets that spread out from the canal in the 1800s. A village platted in the canal era and incorporated in 1867 carries a good share of older housing, and the village itself describes a walkable place where sidewalks link the neighborhoods. Moves into these blocks tend to involve staircases, tight driveways and doors that open straight onto the street rather than a wide suburban garage. Stackable totes that slide through a narrow hallway and up a flight of stairs suit that kind of move, and they go back when the two weeks are done.
All of it, including Spencerport Village, Union Street, the Erie Canal, Canal Road and Ogden Center. Zip code 14559.

Older village homes with porches (perfect for a drop-off spot) and family subdivisions in the surrounding town of Ogden. More than you think. A 900 sq ft one-bedroom usually takes 40 to 50 totes once the kitchen and closets are counted. Plan on 12 to 15 for a kitchen, 8 to 10 per bedroom, 6 to 8 for a living room, 4 to 6 for closets and linens, and 12+ for a garage or basement. Our home packages run from 15 to 100 totes. When in doubt, size up: unopened totes come back with us at no charge.
Yes. People search for plastic moving boxes, moving bins, moving crates and reusable moving boxes, and they all mean the same thing: a sturdy 27 x 17 x 12 inch container with an attached lid that stacks and rolls. We call them totes.
