Moving tote rental in Geneseo, NY

Red moving totes delivered to your door in Geneseo. Flat package price, plus a small mileage fee we quote before you pay.

Geneseo is the Livingston County seat and a college town, down I-390 from Rochester. It is a longer trip for us, so mileage applies, but student and faculty moves often pair up well with a Rochester address on the other end.

About Geneseo, for anyone moving there

Geneseo is a town and village in Livingston County, in the Finger Lakes region at the south end of the five-county Rochester metropolitan area. The village has been the county seat since 1821 and was incorporated in 1832. The town counted 10,234 residents in the 2020 census, 7,574 of them in the village. James and William Wadsworth arrived in 1790 as land agents, and the Treaty of Big Tree was negotiated on this site in 1797. The State Normal School opened in 1871 and is now SUNY Geneseo, a four-year public liberal arts college with about 5,000 undergraduates, and the town and village are known today mainly as its home. The Genesee Valley holds some of the best farmland in New York, though many residents commute to jobs in the Rochester area.

The village sits in the western part of the town, where Routes 39 and 63 meet US 20A, with the Genesee River as its western line. A fountain built in the 1880s stands in the middle of Main Street, and the Livingston County Courthouse and county offices are at the end of it. The Geneseo Historic District takes in the commercial center, the most refined residential streets and the Wadsworth estate, and it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1991. Outside the village, much of Route 20A has become commercial, with big-box stores, while most of the town's land is farmland. Along Route 256, West Lake Road, a string of hamlets lines the western shore of Conesus Lake: Sleggs Landing, Eagle Point, Sacketts Harbor, Wadsworth Cove, Long Point, Long Point Cove and Cottonwood Cove. Interstate 390 passes south and east of the village.

Housing in the village center is largely 19th century. The historic district holds 312 properties, and Italianate and Queen Anne styles dominate, with many older Federal-style homes remodeled into those styles. Streets are shaded by oaks the Wadsworths planted, some approaching 200 years old. The college shapes who lives here: in the 2000 census, 63.5 percent of village residents were between 18 and 24, so rentals turn over with the academic year and campus move-in fills late August. On the lake, the hamlets sit along a single shore road, and the rest of the town is farms, where a move often means a farmhouse with outbuildings. Stackable totes work well in old village houses with narrow stairs and in student rentals where a move has to happen in a single afternoon.
